The creation of a design guide used across thousands of users

IBM Watson Data Platform guide; coded components with dev lead, integrated across products.

My last main group at IBM was the Watson Data Platform team, a position that was incredibly hard to leave. My role blended design, development, and asset and product management in the creation of a comprehensive guide used across multiple products. Although it was a team effort, we worked highly collaboratively to achieve our goals.

I was deeply involved in both the coding and UX aspects of the guide. Everything in the guide was built and coded between myself and my dev lead, while I also engaged in UX work with our visual designers and Design Lead. The final implementation of the guide into products was incredibly gratifying, and it was rewarding to gather feedback on the components as they were used in real-world applications.

Design Guide Foundation

The comprehensive design guide served as the foundation for consistent user experiences across the Watson Data Platform. This system enabled thousands of users to have a cohesive experience while working across multiple products.

Component Library Development

Working closely with the dev lead, I coded and designed comprehensive component libraries that could be easily implemented across different products. Each component included detailed specifications and usage guidelines.

Interactive Components & Patterns

The guide included detailed documentation of interactive components, showing different states, variations, and usage patterns that designers and developers could reference when building new features.

Implementation & Usage Guidelines

The final sections of the guide provided clear usage guidelines, implementation details, and real-world examples that helped teams successfully integrate the design system into their products.
